Testimonials

I was stuck in the routine of family life with the years creeping up on me. For many years, I had a pilot light of ambition and desire to realise my creative potential. I saw the website for Great New Writers and decided to contact Martin. I’m so glad I did, we had an amazing first session now. I am still resonating from his teachings several months later. He made me realise the importance of character that drives the story and plot, as well as structure and subtext of story. Martin made me delve deep into my own life experiences to develop the characters and give the story thematic purpose, and at the same time teaching me the importance of the target audience.

Martin’s versatility from books to a different writing platform showed his immense knowledge and ability to transfer his skills to suit his clients. I was fearful that I was too old to learn and develop, but Martin not only taught me writing but the psychology I needed to overcome any obstacles that I had placed myself. I do not live in London but he offers telephone and Skype contact. His support and continuous guidance is invaluable. I now have the belief and enthusiasm that I thought I had lost since my student days, almost two decades ago. The seeds Martin has planted in the soil of my imagination are continuously growing. I look forward to my next session.

As an undergraduate, Martin taught me. It was one of the greatest learning experiences I have ever had. Since I have become a professional writer I recently spent some time with him to talk and work on my writing. Those days were truly inspiring for me and I can only recommend Martin to everyone if you ever need help or advice in any matters concerning your writing or other creative issues. If you want to start writing and feel somewhat insecure, go to him! The applies to issues if you are experiencing any sort of writer’s block. Martin’s profound knowledge of not only literature, but film, music and media will motivate you to write. His never-ending enthusiasm continues to impress me. Just talking to him is such a motivating and uplifting experience. In a nutshell: Martin has been one of the best, if not THE best teacher, mentor and creative companion I have had so far and I can only recommend his workshops and tutorials to all creative people.

As a Lecturer in film theory and cultural studies, Martin was absolutely fantastic for me; he is an inspirational educator and a passionate academic. Martin engages, encourages and nurtures and made everything we studied come to life. As a writer of novels and a playwright he takes a lot of pride in the creative process and happily shares his thoughts and ideas. In managing people who want to write, I think Martin is the perfect fit because he draws on theories, cultures, and life to successfully teach. Martin has become my very good friend and a constant in life that I can always depend upon for sage advice.

Martin was my key lecturer at Brunel University, Martin is an intellectual, but he's something so much more. He's an inspirer. He genuinely makes you want to be more than you are. I left university years ago and whenever I think of him, I think of striving to be better at what I do just because that's what he taught me. Don't ever stop. Don't ever give up. You're always capable of more. Martin teaches subjectively but imparts objectively. He listens. In my final year, I found a couple of concepts challenging, and no one else would give me their time to help me explore my ideas and opinions. Thankfully Martin did and that allowed me to structure my thoughts and ensure I got my point across with the brevity. There aren't enough people like Martin so he unreservedly gets a recommendation from me and I hope that anyone who reads this goes on to benefit from the skills he taught me.
