Wyatt O'Brian Evans: Great New Writers in the UK and USA

January 22, 2017

My featured writer, Wyatt O’Brian Evans, has so much talent; I had to divide his stories in two parts. Let us continue with Part Two.

Wyatt O’Brian Evans is also the founder, CEO and President of Nair’BoUniversal, the publishing and production house that releases the NCTUA series. He holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in journalism and political science from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. CLICK HERE for further information about him.

In my last conversation with Wyatt, it became very clear to be that he is a dedicated writer that combines his work as a specialist in Black men’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing related to Intimate Partner Violence and Abuse (IPV/A).

Wyatt O’Brian Evans arguably is the quintessential Renaissance man. Mr Evans is an author, journalist, radio personality, entrepreneur, instructor, voice-over artist, public/motivational speaker, and entertainer. He has provocative insight to gay men of colour, IPV/A, bullying, mental illness.

The award-winning and acclaimed author, intimately exposes the complexities experienced by two gay men of colour as they navigate their relationship through turbulent waters in part two of his Nothing Can Tear Us Apart Series—FRENZY! It is currently available at all online retailers in digital and paperback. CLICK HERE

Wyatt, an African American, poignantly calls attention to racial and ethnic issues encountered by Antonio and Wes as they navigate through riveting circumstances tied to their monogamous relationship while depicting the reality of Intimate Partner Violence/Abuse (IPV/A), mental illness, childhood abuse and bullying. Based on real-life events, this provocative, dramatic novel does more than provide for a good read. FRNEZY! is more than an enthralling book—it is a call to action.

Wyatt says, “Intimate Partner Violence and Abuse (IPV/A), is such a critical—and potentially life-threatening—issue facing the LGBTQ community,” said author Wyatt O’Brian Evans. “And, stigma is a driving force that keeps it ‘swept under the rug.’ Therefore, it tends to be grossly under-reported. As a journalist, I've extensively researched and reported on this behaviour; I've interviewed scores of victims and survivors. And I, myself, am a survivor.”

The central characters in the novel FRENZY! has a unique set of challenges to overcome while still facing obstacles found in any committed relationship. Wyatt states: “I believe the biggest misconception is that the LGBTQ community doesn't have the same problems, issues and challenges as the heterosexual community,” Evans said. “Regarding IPV/A between two gay/same-gender-loving (SGL) men, too many individuals don't consider the abuse to be actual abuse. They think, “Oh, well! It's just ‘boys being boys.’”

This multidimensional novel explores the reality Black and Latino gay men’s experience. “People of Colour have to deal with racism and discrimination in their everyday existence,” Wyatt said. “Certainly, this can fuel the issues I present in FRENZY! Just like in the heterosexual community, there is structural racism within the LGBTQ community. This structural racism perpetuates barriers to opportunities and racial disparities. We have to eradicate these barriers. One of the major reasons I write the Nothing Can Tear Us Apart series of novels is to present LGBTQ and racial diversity in a vibrant, nuanced, ‘real-life’ light, if you will.” CLICK HERE to watch the trailer for the novel.

As a respected radio personality, journalist and inspirational speaker, Wyatt Evans delves into personal experiences to bring the characters to life on the page. All-in-all Wyatt said he invested thirteen months of research into the book and sought the counsel of a psychologist to ensure a sound representation of IPV/A, multiple personality disorder, childhood abuse and bullying. Wyatt profoundly believes: “Any author worth his salt must present slices of real life to the reader,” he said. “Over my lifetime, I’ve known child abuse victims. And, I was bullied through junior high school. The message I send to bullied LGBTQ youth is that you are not alone. Also, and this is crucial: you must tell individuals you trust, because they can help you. Silence is a bully’s most effective weapon.”

Beyond the heated captivation of FRENZY!, Wyatt’s bottom line is greater than an enthralling read. “My wish is that FRENZY! provides a window into the critical issues confronting the LGBTQ community, thereby creating opportunities to further open an honest dialogue,” he said. “That is what fosters positive change.”  FRENZY! is currently available at all online retailers in digital and paperback. I want to wish Wyatt every success with his latest novel and I will return to him later to follow up on his work as a radio host and journalist. With so many commitments in his calendar, I am happy to make time for him when he is next available.
